For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,
for my hope is from him.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
On God rests my salvation and my glory;
my mighty rock, my refuge is God.
Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us.
Psalm 62:5-8
There is a lot going on in the world around us and we all have expectations of what this year will bring. The ongoing pandemic and the political unrest in countries where we have families serving are some of the dark clouds on my horizon. At the same time, Christian and I are awaiting the bright dawn of welcoming our first child in June. Whether you are expecting dark clouds or the breaking of dawn, may we all wait on the Lord and trust him with our tomorrows.
In the Classroom
Growth! The end of the first semester brings the task of writing my students' progress reports. It allows me to go through their work and assessments in order to write to their parents about the growth they have made throughout the first semester. I find this to be an encouraging time as a teacher, to be able to look at where a student started and how far he or she has come in all sorts of areas is encouraging. I have students who are reading more fluently, becoming more organized, and learning to better advocate for themselves. It is also a good time to reflect on the growth that is not measured by numbers or work output: confidence, trust, depth of relationships. This is my primary role: to help these students grow, which supports their parents, which allows them to expand God's kingdom through their ministries.
As we start the second semester, unfortunately, our high school is in remote learning due to the number of covid cases among the students and staff. Thankfully, there have been no reports of severe cases and it has not yet spread significantly to middle school, which has been able to continue in-person. I am thankful for our school administration, who desire to keep us in in-person learning as long as it is safe and possible.
Future Plans
In order to continue to serve at BFA, I have to be employed by a German organization. Thankfully TeachBeyond has arranged a partnership with a German mission organization that will allow me to continue legally working here. With our baby expected in June, I will go on maternity leave for several months and then take a Home Ministry Assignment (Furlough) for the rest of the 2022-2023 school year. This will allow me time at home with the new baby and then time to travel to the States in late spring or early summer of 2023 to reconnect with family, friends, and ministry partners. I plan to return to work part-time at BFA in the fall of 2023. God continues to lead Christian and I on each step of our journey, and we are so thankful for his sustaining blessings and provisions. Thank you for the part you play in these blessings!
Please Pray...
That the spread of Covid would stop in our school community
For the continued protection against severe cases
For trust in God and reliance on his strength amidst the ever-changing regulations
For a healthy pregnancy
For wisdom in working with two new students
For the families in areas that are affected by recent "world events"
Praise God for this pregnancy
Praise God that students were able to be on campus for their final exams
Praise God that he is in control of all things!
Blessings,
Becky
