Rejoice Always!
1 Thessalonians 5:16
All of my seniors made it to graduation! One student later told me, "As I sat on the stage waiting for my diploma it hit me. I was struck by how much God has done for me here at BFA!" The following Tuesday, staff wrapped up our work week and many began their summer travels to see family and friends. Christian and I celebrated our first anniversary with a nice meal and some fun creek walking. This past week has been filled with long work hours for Christian as several of his colleagues are on vacation, and long days for me as I pack and prepare for our trip. We will be spending time in Arizona for a family reunion. Christian and I will also be in the San Diego area. Then Christian flies back after three weeks to return to work while I head up to Redding for another week. My summer break ends on August 9th as we start our next All Staff Conference and begin welcoming and training new staff. Next year, I will be moving my office/classroom to a spot in the middle school and working with about 6 middle school students in Resource and about 4 high school students.
If you are in the San Diego (July 1-8) or Redding area (July 18-23), and would like to connect, send me an email: [email protected].
Finding Support: The Story of a Resource Student in Three Parts
Part 3: Graduation
I sit in the audience and watch as the senior class walks up to the front of the auditorium, each holding a flag representing either their passport country or parents' country of service. The same music plays each year and each year, I hold back tears as I watch her and a handful of other students reach the stage. These are the unsung champions, the ones who have fought the hardest just to have a seat on this stage. These are the ones into whom I have poured long hours, these are the ones that I have grown to love, and now I will watch them go.
I worked with them in their triumphs, their tears, and their ah-ha's! I was there to give them a fresh start every day, to encourage, to cheer, to challenge, to motivate. I was there to explain the five-paragraph essay, the quadratic equation, scientific notation, alliteration, der/die/das and so much more. I was there to give them the tools to study, to stay organized, to ask questions, to make it through high school and overcome their challenges. I am their Resource Teacher, and this is what I do.
Please Pray...
Praise God that we made it through the end of the year with zero COVID cases among staff and students!
Praise God that my seniors made it to graduation.
Praise God for the safe travel of our students back to their parents.
For my students to have good quality time with their families over the summer.
For Christian and I as we travel to the States to visit family, friends, and ministry partners.
For the new staff arriving over the summer: good transitions, ease of travel, settling into a new home.
Blessings,
Becky
