The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:5b-7
COVID-19 and School
On Friday, March 13th, we were told that the following Monday would be the last day students could come on campus as all schools in our area had to close as of that Tuesday. Over the weekend, many families worked to arrange travel plans to bring their children home to be with them before borders closed throughout Europe. About half of our 100 dorm students were able to travel home, while the other half will remain in the dorm until travel restrictions are lifted. Since that time, teachers have been conducting classes through online platforms, and I have been connecting with my students via video conferencing and email. The school is strangely quiet as many teachers work from home. Since some of my daily tasks have decreased, I have had the time to work on larger school projects that had previously been on hold. We have one more week of remote learning before our two weeks off for Spring Break. Our school leaders continue to meet to try to best understand this situation and plan for the remainder of the school year. They have made a commitment to the families that we will provide educational opportunities for all students to finish the school year, whether on campus or remotely.
COVID-19 and Personal Life
Germany has decided not to restrict residents to their homes, but rather to restrict the number of people allowed to congregate in public. We are not allowed to be in groups of more than two (other than family units) and should avoid public spaces as much as possible. Thankfully, we are still allowed to be outside for individual sports (walks, runs, bike rides). Most of the small shops in town are closed, restaurants can only serve take-out or delivery. Christian's company has employees working from home and are looking at reducing hours in the next few weeks as business has started to slow down. To stay connected with our church friends, Christian and I have skyped and sent postcards.
Please Pray...
Praise God for his sovereignty over all that is happening in the world.
Praise God for the number of dorm students who were able to make it safely home to be with their families.
Praise God for the little blessings that have come amid these trials.
For the families that have been separated due to closed borders and travel restrictions.
For the staff caring for the students still living in the dorms.
For the protection of students, staff, and family from the virus.
For wisdom as Christian and I continue to make plans for our wedding and summer travel.
Blessings,
Becky
