Where do I live?
Hammersteiner Str. 49
79400 Kandern, Germany
This is a refirbished barn, originally built in the 1800's. In the 1960's, a stray firecracker landed on the roof burning the barn to the ground, except for the stone walls, and killing all of the animals inside. Apparently, if you dig in the basement you may come across some skeletons. The barn is now owned by the Greater European Mission and houses their offices and several apartments. The barn is located near the center of Kandern. This quaint, little town is surrounded by forested hills with walking paths which extend for miles (or kilometers in Germany). The weather here has been partly rainy with temperatures hovering around the 70s F. The walk from my front door to the high school is only about 5 minutes, and it takes me 15 minutes or less to walk just about anywhere else in town.
In Germany...
It is normal to walk or use public transportation.
Apartments (and houses) are aired daily by opening a window, no matter the weather outside.
There are no screens on windows and they all open in two ways (fully open from the side or tilted from the top).
The weather is not inappropriate for the activity but your clothing may be.
It is normal to go to the store daily or several times a week.
Seat yourself at a restaurant.
Dump out the water in the dryer drawer after it finishes.
Trash must be sorted in a very particular way.
For the last bit of my support to come in by the end of September
For continued focus and trust in God
For a prepared heart of service as I begin teaching in September
For connecting well with the students
For good communication between myself and the general education teachers
For a balanced schedule between work and personal time
Praises...
There have been several little ways in which I have seen God's specific blessing
My co-worker at the high school wants me to work with the students who primarily need math support, and I love teaching math.
My training and eperience in the states has helped prepare me for this job (I was asked to be the supervisor for our resource team because of my background. So I will have a few added responsibilities beyond working with my own students.)
My neighbor is a wonderful and godly friend who has already been a huge encouragement and help
